Local translator wins Molson prize

The Canada Council for the Arts has awarded Montreal literary translator Sheila Fischman and University of Victoria professor Angus McLaren with Molson Prizes.
Fischman has won the Molson Prize in the Arts for her translations of novels by Quebec contemporary writers, including Michel Tremblay, Lise Bissonnette, Roch Carrier, Anne Hébert and Yves Beauchemin.
McLaren - a professor of history (emeritus) and the author of a number of books on sexuality, gender and reproduction - won the Molson Prize in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The $50,000 prizes recognize outstanding lifetime achievements and are awarded annually.
