French-American Foundation and Florence Gould Foundation Announce Translation Prize Winners

The French-American Foundation and the Florence Gould Foundation yesterday announced the winners of their 21st annual translation prizes for superior translations into English of French literary works published in 2007. Ravel by Jean Echenoz, translated by Linda Coverdale and published by The New Press, won the fiction prize; and The Curtain by Milan Kundera, translated by Linda Asher and published by HarperCollins, won the nonfiction prize.
Each winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000, funded by the Florence Gould Foundation. A reception followed the awards ceremony, which was held at The Gallery at The Century Club in Manhattan.
The nonfiction jurors were Tom Bishop, Antoine Compagnon, Richard Howard and Lily Tuck. The fiction jurors included Tom Bishop, Antoine Compagnon, Richard Howard, Linda Asher and Lily Tuck.
