Quest For Leader Lost In Translation

So if Fred and Jeff Wilpon wish to identify the root cause of the Mets' problems in a 12-month period in which the Mets are 77-81 since last June 3, following last night's 5-3 victory over the Marlins, they might want to look in the clubhouse before they look in the dugout. There's something wrong with the Mets' mix, something wrong with the dynamic in the clubhouse, something wrong with the group that's supposed to lead and just as much wrong with the group that's supposed to follow . . . who? A manager must be a leader. Anyone who thinks Willie Randolph isn't a leader must have missed his career. But the manager can't be the team leader. This of course begs the question: Do the Mets have one?
