   With about 90 percent of the vote counted, Ma had 51 percent with Tsai had 46.3 percent.

     "This is not my personal victory, the victory belongs to all Taiwanese," Ma told thousands of jubilant supporters in downtown Taipei. "They told us that we are on the right track."

    The winning of Ma Ying-jeou and Kuomintang  in Saturday's elections may open new chances for the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

    The results of the elections have indicated that the peaceful development of the cross-Strait relations is a correct path and has been widely recognized by the Taiwan people.
