2.2.6 Tension Unit 张紧装置
On the opposite side of the drive unit the tension unit is placed. It is used to stress both dozer chains. The tension has to amount approximately 1,6-times of the at most drive force. To achieve the tension a tension unit (track tensioner) is installed which produces the essential tension force via springs or hydraulic cylinder (elastomer damper). Figure 19 shows the elastomer damper as an example of a tension unit.

As can be seen in Figure 16 the tension unit consists of:

The tension frame and the idler wheels which are bolted to the tension frame are shown in Figure 20. They can be moved on the base frame via the elastic damper. A distance bolt can be bolted to the tension frame to transfer the force from the elastic damper.

Grease which is fed through a grease nipple fills the chamber between inside and outside cylinder and moves the inside cylinder to reach a specific pre-loading. On the other side silicone which does not flocculate until temperature of -45°C is arranged between piston and inside cylinder. The amount of grease in the crease chamber determines how much the silicone is squeezed by the piston, i.e. it determines the tension force. For a safe and durable operation the piston is normally made of stainless steel 1.4021 and the cylinders are made of 42 Cr Mo 4 or St 52. Additionally the surface of the inside cylinder is rust-protected and hardened (65 HRC) since it has partial contact with the envi-ronment. Moreover this kind of tensioner offers the following distinct ad-vantages:
