会议背景介绍: On behalf of the Australian Society of Animal Production (ASAP), I would like to invite you to participate and contribute to the first the joint International Symposium on the Nutrition of Herbivores/International Symposium on Ruminant Physiology (ISNH/ISRP) in Canberra, Australia, 8 -12 September 2014. Canberra is the ideal location to provide delegates with an invigorating scientific, field and social program focussing on a?#339;Harnessing the Ecology and Physiology of Herbivoresa?#157;. Canberra is also home to some of the most progressive regions for animal production in Australia, with major nodes for dairy, beef and sheep production close by. This destination appeal, along with Canberraa?#8482;s world renowned meetings infrastructure and professional industry expertise means that the 2014 ISNH/ISRP conference will attract a large number of participants, which in turn will result in a successful event. The conference will provide an excellent international forum that will facilitate the discussion, development and exchange of knowledge on the basic and applied physiology, biochemistry and nutrition of herbivores and its interactions with animal health, welfare, production and product quality. This international meeting will provide a high profile platform for public awareness of the importance of herbivores in human society and the sustainability of our environment. The ground breaking research being conducted throughout Australasia on controlling greenhouse gas emissions through nutritional and biotechnical manipulation, on energetic efficiency and meat quality will provide an important focus for this conference. I, together with our colleagues within Australia represented through the Australian Society of Animal Production (ASAP), would like to welcome you to debate and discuss the issues raised above within the beautiful Australian countryside in 2014.
征文范围及要求: The theme of "Harnessing the Ecology and Physiology of Herbivores" has the following sub-themes: Maintaining our environment in the face of increased demand for food: Adaptation to and mitigation of climate change. Our goal will be to provide a forum to discuss new and alternative alternatives to decrease the environmental impact of livestock production on environmental quality. These will include: The role for genomics in breeding adaptable species The adaptability of reproductive mechanisms to ensure species survival The sustainability of herbivore populations in the wild Energy and energetic efficiency: Alternative feed and energy sources from plants. Worldwide use of grains and vegetable oils, for fuel is leading us towards a potential crisis in food supply, therefore in this part of the program we intend to address how the scientific community could develop model systems for improving energetic efficiency in animal production. Sub themes will include: Cost effective feeding for energetic efficiency Making better use of world-wide low quality biomass resources Manipulating the ruminal genome to optimise these processes Alternative feeds to replace feed grains diverted for ethanol production The development of alternative technologies and plant species for ethanol production from celluloses to replace the use of grains Enhanced animal health and food safety. In this part of the program we intend to address how the health of food animals can be improved through genetic strategies to decrease dependence on antibiotics, vaccines and drugs. Other themes that will be addressed include: Current understanding of the nexus between nutrition, microbiology and immunology How nutrients influence the immunological competence of animals The potential risk of veterinary pharmaceuticals to food safety Healthier food for a hungry world: Enhancing the quality of food from herbivores. In this part of the program we intend to address how animal products can be increased in their health value for human consumption. Other themes that will be addressed include: The technology of incorporating value-adding nutrients into products Changing fatty acid composition of meat and milk Incorporating trace minerals into meat and milk Increasing anti-oxidant levels in animal products Lengthening the shelf-life of animal products On farm factors and their role in eating quality of meat and quality of milk The science behind animal welfare: Healthier animals in a hungry world. Animal welfare is an important political imperative in today’s society. In this part of the program we intend to address how the scientific community could develop new approached to monitor and assess animal welfare in herbivores. Sub themes will include: The current status of our knowledge of stress physiology. The impact of welfare standards on production efficiency The cost of introducing new welfare imperatives across the globe Novel indices of stress status Gestational nutrition In this part of the program we intend to address how environmental and nutritional challenges influence the physiology of herbivores and that of their offspring. Other themes that will be addressed include: Foetal programming, New understandings around the impacts of transition nutrition on the dam New understandings on the acquisition of the ruminal biome by the neonate
