Founded in 2009, EAAERE is the first international academic organization of environmental economics in Asia. In 2003 the Third World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists (WCERE) was decided to be held in Japan, in the absence of regional academic association, the Society for Environmental Economics and Policy Studies in Japan (SEEPS) and several famous environmental economists in Asia were invited to host the Congress. During the preparation for the congress, all the invited economists unanimously agreed that there is a need for a regional association of environmental and resource economics. Therefore, in 2005, the First East Asian Symposium on Environmental and Natural Resources Economics (EASENRE) was held in Beijing. It followed with four Symposiums held in Seoul (2006), Tokyo (2008), Taipei (2009) and Sapporo (2010), respectively. In 2010, the EAAERE was officially founded during the Fifth EASENRE in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. Professor Kazuhiro Ueta of Kyoto University was elected as the President of EAAERA, and Professor Il-Chung Kim of Dongguk University and President Daigee Shaw of Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research were elected as the Vice Presidents of EAAERA. During the 2nd Congress of EAAERE which was held in Bandung, Indonesia, 2~4 February 2012, Professor Daigee Shaw of the Institute of Economics, Academia Sinica, was elected as the President of EAAERE, and Professor Il-Chung Kim of Dongguk University and Professor Budy Prasetyo Resosudarmo of Australian National University were elected as the Vice Presidents.
The Association is an academic organization dedicated to encouraging the exchange of ideas, research and other professional activities that are of an interdisciplinary nature relating to the economics and management of the environment and natural resources in Asia, particularly in East Asia. EAAERE aims at developing a platform for scholars and economists to exchange ideas and stimulate research, as well as offering opportunities for its members to present the findings of their studies in workshops and conferences.
征文范围及要求:Growth of the world economy has weakened since the global financial crisis of 2008. Recovery from the crisis is not enough to promote job creation in many countries. The job crises continue in developed economies, and the projected growth pace of developing countries is insufficient to reduce poverty level significantly.
The slow-down of the world economy creates challenges for world environment by making countries concentrate on short-run economic stimulus packages rather than on the measures for long-run sustainability. Fewer resources are available to confront climate change and other environmental devastation. Sustainable development is at risk!
The main theme of the 4th Congress of the East Asian Association of Environmental and Resource Economics (EAAERE) that will take place in Busan, Korea, between February 12 and 14, 2014, is "Toward a New Sustainable Economy". We hope this Congress will provide a very productive chance of discussing the ways to transform the challenges into the opportunities for sustainable development. The sustainability issues in Asian countries under the persisting world economic crises will be discussed by leading environmental and resource economists of the region. Contributed papers on any topic within the field of environmental and resource economics and related disciplines will be considered, as is traditional at EAAERE congresses. Some of many related topics are listed below as examples:
Sustainable Development
Food and Agriculture
Renewable Resources
Air, Water and Land
