The symposium provides an international forum for transgenerational, transphilosophical, and transdisciplianry explorations; and will feature paper presentations which will later be considered for inclusion in a special 2015 LAND issue under the same theme. The goals for the symposium and the special issue are twofold: (1) to foster scholarship on the acquisition of ecological wisdom and its applications to the contemporary practice of landscape and urban planning; and (2) to facilitate international collaborations on ecological wisdom research. We are looking for proposals that report evidence‐based and case‐specific research that contributes to a better understanding of ecological wisdom as defined in the editorial by Xiang[Doing real and permanent good in landscape and urban planning: Ecological wisdom for urban sustainability, Landscape and Urban Planning, 121C (2014), pp. 65‐69], and to its greater actionability and practicality in the contemporary practice of landscape and urban planning for urban sustainability. Pure theoretical discussions are generally discouraged. Paper proposals should center on any one, or combination, of inquiries proposed in the editorial: 1.Ecological wisdom as domain knowledge; 2. Ecological wisdom as actionable and practical knowledge; 3. Ecological wisdom as benchmark; and 4. Ecological wisdom as secret of sustained achievement. An extended abstract of 800 words or less with a list of references is due on March 1st, 2014 to Ms Ying Chen, LAND editorial assistant, at ychen@des.ecnu.edu.cn. Along with the abstract, an abbreviated curriculum vita of each contributor should also be submitted. Inquiries should be directed to Ying Chen or Wei‐Ning Xiang, LAND co‐editor‐in‐chief, at wnxiang@mail.ecnu.edu.cn. |
