This encompasses the more traditional areas of oxidative damage and antioxidants, but also incorporates the growing importance of oxidant-mediated redox signaling through the reactions of oxidants with cellular signaling pathways. This research conference is held every two years and sixteen have been held since 1981. These meetings have proven to be extremely productive based on the large number of applicants and the strong post-meeting evaluations. The sessions for the upcoming meeting include: Detection Methods: New and Improved; Protein Oxidative Modification and Turnover; Mitochondria: Redox Organelles; Free Radicals in Carcinogenesis; Oxidative Modifications in Aging and Age-Related Disease; Rates do Matter; Free Radical Metabolites in the Initiation of Autoimmunity; and A New Look at Dinitrosyl Iron Complexes in Cancer. The invited speakers represent current and future leaders in free radical research in pulmonary and cardiovascular disease, inflammation and toxicology. Additionally, 13 speaker slots are reserved for selected abstract presentations. A keynote lecture at the end of the conference is presented by outstanding long-term investigator in the field Professor Sue Goo-Rhee, and the opening lecture will be presented by the highly acclaimed researcher in the area Professor Salvador Moncada. Two separate poster sessions of two days each are also scheduled. Furthermore, the 2014 Oxygen Radicals GRC will include, for the first time, a Gordon Research Seminar, a forum in which graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience come together to discuss their current research and build networks. The 2014 seminar will be organized by postdoctoral fellows Katarzyna Broniowska and Anne Diers. |
