Authors of the selected oral abstracts will then be invited to submit their work as a full research paper. The paper must contain a significant amount of new, unpublished work and should be submitted by 3 June 2014. --------------------- General Information Date & Venue Location: 27–29th October 2014 Xiamen University, China No 422 Siming South Road, Siming District, Xiamen city, Fujian province, 361005

http://www.xmu.edu.cn/ History of Faraday Discussions: The first Faraday Discussion meeting was held over a hundred years ago in 1907 in London and debated "osmotic pressure", with the 250th meeting taking place in 2013. Next-Generation Materials for Energy Chemistry – Faraday Discussion 176 will be the first Faraday Discussion in China. Faraday Discussions pride themselves on providing an opportunity for all delegates to contribute, with the discussions comments as well as the presented papers recorded in a fully citable way following the meeting. Many Faraday Discussions have become landmarks in the development of physical chemistry. Unique Faraday Discussions:
Faraday Discussions have a special format in which papers are distributed to all participants in advance of the conference and almost all the meeting is devoted to discussion of the papers. In this way, any participant at the conference has the opportunity to make a major contribution. All the papers and the submitted Discussion remarks - which include anything a contributor “said, or think they said or wished they had said” – will be published in the famous Faraday Discussion volume as a permanent and citable record of the meeting after the conference. The meeting starts with the introductory lecture, which is normally followed by around 24 discussion papers by invited and contributing speakers and the final lecturer summarizes the meeting in their concluding remarks.
The 24 speakers presenting their papers have a strict 5 minutes to summarize their work. Each session consists of three 5 minute presentations with the remaining 25 minutes of the session dedicated to the discussion.
The poster mixer session and conference banquet are also important aspects of the meeting allowing delegates to interact in a more informal setting. The speakers write a paper before the meeting which are sent to all delegates before the meeting to read and prepare questions they want to ask at the meeting. Speakers get just 5 minutes to summarize their results Then any delegate can present their own data (including powerpoint slides) or ask a question All the presented papers and a record of the discussion, including new research presented by any delegate, are published together in the Faraday Discussion volume in fully referenced and citeable form. There is also a poster session where further discussion takes place. Feedback of previous Faraday Discussions (exactly as they were submitted)
?“It has been my first attendance to Faraday discussion. Excellent experience and a perfect opportunity for networking with the experts in the field.” ?“I strongly admired the very open atmosphere for discussion and the readiness of the participants to share information. I have not experienced this on other conferences so far.” - Niklas Nilius ?“A very impressive meeting. We have enough time to communicate with the excellent colleagues from allover the word, which is valuable to improve our research.” - Dongping Zhan, Professor of Chemsitry, Xiamen University, China ?“The long time dedicated to discussion is very stimulating and very interesting for the understanding/evolution of everyone's researches.” ?“The best conference I attended this year.” ?“The format of Faraday discussions makes them significantly more interesting than other conferences of the same size or duration.” ?“This was my first FD and it has set a new standard for me as to how scientific conferences should be conducted. I look forward to attending again in the future.”
