1967年6月生，江苏人。1997年毕业于中国科学院生态环境研究中心，获理学博士学位。1997年起在北京大学任教，先后任环境管理学讲师、副教授、教授。曾先后在在美国布朗大学、加州大学（伯克利）做访问学者。
主持了10余项国家和国际合作项目，作为第一负责人主持的代表性项目包括：国家自然科学基金、联合国教科文组织项目、Ford基金会项目。讲授课程包括环境保护与可持续发展（全校通选课）、环境管理（本科生）、自然资源管理前沿（研究生），先后指导博士生、硕士生近10名。发表论文30余篇，国际学术期刊论文10余篇。曾获联合国教科文组织人与生物圈计划青年科学家奖学金（2000）、美国国务院富布莱特奖学金（2006）。
目前主要研究领域：干旱地区草场管理；自然资源管理的社区参与；自然保护区的公共物品属性及管理的制度安排。
