科研领域描述
My laboratory is interested in aging and cell death.
In aging research, we are mainly interested to study the function of ASIC2a (Acid Sensing Ion Channel 2a), an ion channel belongs to the superfamily of DEG/ENaC (Degnerin/EpithelialSodium Channel), and is specifically expressed in mammalian central nervous system. We unexpectedly discovered that ASIC2 induced longevity intransgenic C. elegans worms. For its mechanism, we found that ASIC2a modulated metabolism through interacting with a mitochondrial protein. Currently, we are studying how ASIC2a contributes stress resistance in mice andworms.
In the area of cell death, my lab is interestedin studying all aspects of cell death, including apoptosis and necrosis.Currently, we have established several new models of apoptosis and necrosis in Drosophila. Our data indicates that distinct molecular mechanisms may exist to execute different types of cell death in different tissues or under different stresses. Therefore, new pathways are waiting to be uncovered. Because many patients loss their life each day from diseases such as sepsis and brain stroke, and no cell death inhibitors are available to save them, there is a urgent need to develop effective cell death inhibitors. My lab has been collaborating with chemists to develop new cell death inhibitors. So far, we have found several drug candidates for further development.
