My laboratory is interested in synapse wiring patterns in the diseased brain (particularly interested in Alzheimer’s disease-AD and Autism Spectrum Disorders-ASDs). The wiring of synapses (including formation, maturation and elimination of synapses) is an active process during not only early development, but also throughout adulthood. Our previous work revealed that deficits in mono-synaptic wiring contribute to the pathological development of AD and ASDs. Now we are studying synaptic wiring diagrams at circuit-level by adopting a combination of molecular/biochemical, genetic, electrophysiological and optogenetic methods. Our aim is to help understand the spatial-temporal properties of neural circuits under physiological and pathological conditions, thus to provide the neural basis for better treatments of AD and ASDs.
