植物器官发育的分子机理
植物叶片是植物光合作用的重要器官,与功能相适应,在长期的进化过程中许多植物形成了能够捕获最大光能的扁平的叶片,叶子的扁平形态对于植物发育来说并不是简单容易的过程,该过程涉及到叶边缘细胞和叶中间细胞的分化和生长的协调,如果不能有效协调,叶子扁平的生长平衡将不能维持,出现非扁平的表型。为了揭示叶片发育的分子机理,我们从拟南芥T-DNA插入激活突变体库中筛选并获得多个叶片发育异常的突变体包括叶片卷曲的突变体,通过分析一个卷叶突变体iamt1-D,我们发现植物生长素的甲基化修饰通过影响TCP转录因子来调控植物叶片的扁平发育。目前正在用遗传学和分子生物学的方法对其他一些新的叶片发育缺陷的突变体进行分析,通过这些研究,将加深我们对植物叶片发育的调控机理的理解,最终可利用这些叶片发育相关的基因调控植物的生长模式来为农业生产服务。
Research Description: Leaves are the most important organs for photosynthesis which converts carbon dioxide and water into sugars and oxygen using energy from sunlight. To facilitate photosynthesis, plants evolve the flat leaves for capturing maximal sunlight. It is not an easy thing for plant to make the flat leaves. The flatness of the leaves results from tightly regulated growth processes involving the fine-tuning of cell division, differentiation and expansion during leaf development. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms that control leaf development, we screened for leaf mutants using our activation tagging mutant collection and obtained several leaf defective mutants including curly leaf ones. The identification for one of the mutants iamt1-D showed that the methylation of IAA plays an important role in plant leaf development through regulating some TCP transcription factor family genes. The researches on the other leaf defective mutants are under way. These studies deepen our understanding on the molecular mechanisms of plant leaf development, and eventually we could use leaf developmental genes as tools to modulate the plant morphologies for agricultural production.
