Environmental scientists, researchers, and engineers the world over consistently rank Environmental Science & Technology as the essential resource in their field. Environmental Science & Technology reports on aspects of the environment and its protection by scientific, engineering, and political means. Published twice monthly, ES&T is a unique source of information for scientific and technical professionals in a wide range of environmental disciplines. In its research section, contributed material may appear as current research papers, policy analyses, or critical reviews. Also included is a magazine section called the A-Pages that provides authoritative news and analysis of the major developments, events, and challenges shaping the field.
The Program
The department of Environmental Science and Technology provides students with general education courses in environmental science and with workforce training in resource monitoring technology. Through the general education courses the department seeks to:
1. Introduce students to basic concepts of atmospheric science, biology, chemistry, geology, oceanography, and physics as they are applied to ecology and human interactions with the environment.
2. Influence attitudes and change behavior towards the consumption of nonrenewable Earth resources, waste disposal, and environmental hazards.
3. Prepare students to make educated decisions on political, social, and ethical issues relating to pollution, natural resources, population growth, and the application of science and technology to environmental problems.
The Environmental Technology and Science courses the department seeks to:
1. Prepare students for employment as water technicians in local, state, and federal government agencies, and in engineering, consulting and environmental service firms dealing with water resource and other environmental issues.
2. Provide students with classroom, laboratory, field, and on-the-job training in surface, ground-water, wetlands, and terrestrial monitoring and related activities.
3. Prepare workforce professionals holding college degrees in natural science with focused training in surface- and ground-water monitoring, data collection, and analysis. |
