Established in 1979, Ozone: Science & Engineering (OS&E) is the journal of the International Ozone Association (IOA), a not-for-profit organization of scientists and engineers founded for the express purpose of exchanging information concerning ozone and other oxygen-related species. The IOA holds several meetings, symposia, and colloquia throughout the world several times each year and an Ozone World Congress every two years.
OS&E is the only journal in the world that focuses on the technologies of ozone. It is a peer-reviewed scientific journal in which results of basic, applied, and engineered research dealing with all aspects of ozone technology can be reported. The fact that treatment of drinking water is the widest current commercial application for ozone is reflected in the great number of papers appearing in OS&E on this subject. However, papers dealing with the generation of ozone, contacting of ozone, analysis of ozone, treatment of wastewater and hazardous wastes, advanced oxidation processes, cooling tower water treatment, gas phase odor control, and identification of primary and secondary oxidation of water contaminants by ozone also appear in this journal. In addition, the journal publishes review papers and research notes on specific and topical issues concerning ozone, as well as case histories of ozone applications. From 1979 through 1990, OS&E appeared quarterly. Due to the explosive inter est in ozone, the journal began publishing on a bimonthly basis in 1991.
