Editor in Chief: Professor Helmut Kroiss, Vienna University of Technology, Austria
Water Science and Technology publishes peer-reviewed papers on all aspects of the science and technology of water and wastewater.
Papers are selected by a rigorous peer review procedure with the aim of rapid and wide dissemination of research results, development and application of new techniques, and related managerial and policy issues. Scientists, engineers, consultants, managers and policy-makers will find this journal essential as a permanent record of progress of research activities and their practical applications.
CALL FOR PAPERS FOR SPECIAL THEME ISSUE OF THE JOURNAL: WATER SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Water Science and Technology invites authors to submit original papers for a special theme issue of the journal devoted to full scale investigations of the applications of new developments in wastewater and water supply technologies.
All submitted papers will undergo a rigorous review process and those accepted will be published in a special Journal issue expected early in 2015.
Key dates:
Full manuscript submission deadline: 31st August 2014
Special Issue Publication date: Early 2015
Aims and Scope:
The goal is to encourage authors to present the full scale or pilot scale (at full scale conditions) results of mid- or long-term investigations of the application of new developments in wastewater and water supply technologies including but not limited to: process control systems or strategies, management strategies, new operational methods for existing infrastructure, etc.
This information is of great importance for practitioners in the field of water treatment and water management (consultants, operators, regulators, administration experts, researchers and developers) and should encourage innovation. In this context "innovation" is a successful full scale application of a new development from an idea to full scale.
These papers should be case studies using scientific methods for the assessment of the new so that the results are based on all relevant and comprehensive data and adequate data quality assessment methods (e.g. mass and energy balances, temperature and parameter variability over time).
The specific local situation before and during the investigation has to be described in such detail that an expert can assess the transferability of the results to other cases of application (climatic conditions, combined or separate sewer system, industrial influences, etc.). It is important to demonstrate the progress achieved as compared to the state of the art (which should be based on a minimum literature requirement). If the new development from idea to laboratory or pilot scale has already been published, the relevant literature should (be) cited.
Submissions should be prepared according to Water Science and Technology's Instructions to Authors, and should be submitted to the journal's online peer review site. When submitting your paper, ensure you select the 'Special Issue' Article Type, and 'Full Scale Investigations Special Issue' Section/Category.

Important Announcement
Water Science and Technology now publishes authoritative review articles that summarise the state of the art for key topics within the scope of the journal. The following gives a definition of the type of material sought:
Review articles are critical and comprehensive reviews that provide new insights or interpretation of a subject through thorough and systematic evaluation of available evidence. They should not normally exceed 8000 words. Manuscripts exceeding 10,000 words will not be accepted for review.
Review articles must give an accurate representation of current views on their subject matter and provide an informed perspective on directions of future research and development. Articles that are simply literature surveys and lack a critical scientific assessment will normally not be accepted.
Review Articles will be subject to a full peer review to ensure that they are of the highest quality.
