How much do you charge per word for translation?
I am thinking of having a document translated from French to English but I’m not sure how much it will cost me per word can you help? And can you also explain how you calculate your translation rates?
Answer
Like most China translation agencies, our rates are usually calculated based on a charge per thousand words not by the individual word. For English into Chinese translation our standard rates start at USD 80 per thousand words so that’s 8 cents per word.

However the good news is that the rates above do not take into account the volume discounts and rebates we offer which usually reduce these costs significantly.

There are other factors which affect the cost of translation assignments in general, these include:
Language pairs translated
Translation companies classify languages into different prices bands, most use six bands with the cheapest language pairs such as French, Spanish, German and Japanese in band 1 with more esoteric and expensive languages such as Arabic and Italian in band 6.
