Walmart is a big client, and we were hoping to use your team for additional Chinese > English translation projects (we expect the volume to increase in the coming months). Given the projected increase – is the rate still too low?

Hello –
In our system, we show a contracted rate of $--/hour.
For now, I’d like your team to spend just 1-2 hours, so we can see if you are a good fit. Please do this for delivery by November 6th, your EOB.
If your team is a good fit, then we would pay for 10 hours a week – 5 hours for Chinese Simplified, 5 hours for Chinese Traditional. We have agreed to work with this client for an introductory period of 3 months, so the work is regular.

Hello –
I am writing about a new opportunity for translation with our client, Walmart. The task is unique, but we hope you may have some interest. Here are the details:
Our client, Walmart, wants to gain insight into what type of conversations people are having about their organization online. They are specifically interested in content online that has to do with labor relations, worker’s rights, or possible strikes. For example, if there is a planned strike against a specific Walmart store in the Shenzhen region, they would like to hear about it.
We have agreed with the client to spend about 5 hours per week for Chinese Simplified, and 5 hours for Chinese Traditional. Each week, your team would generate a report of comments, posts, and articles from news sites as well as social media sites. The report would list the original content in Chinese, then provide a translation into English. An example of the report is attached here. Your team would also spend the 5 hours per week updating the attached checklist – as we want to provide relevant keywords, websites, and other information for the client.
We have two major problems with our current resource:
1.They cannot provide content for Chinese Traditional (or for Hong Kong or Taiwan). Apparently, most of the sites for this area are not accessible from mainland China.
a.Your team may not be able to help us with this – but any insight you can provide will help.
2.The quality of the translation into English is very poor.
Please review the report and checklist – and let me know if you have a resource who might be interested. The right resource would have knowledge about social media, and how to search online. They should also be able to do a basic amount of research about labor unions in China.
If you are interested, we can start off with a ‘trial’ period.
