What are the costs associated with translations?

Frequently asked questions - Translation costs
Translation prices and rates are determined by a number of different factors. We have provided a simple breakdown of the different types of variables that go into determining translation rates.

Background on translation prices

Our company values your business and we will treat your translations with care. Whether it’s a Chinese translation or a translation into another language, you can rest assured we will deliver a quality product.
Our company uses highly trained expert linguists to perform all of our translations. We have experts from China and all over the world with exceptional translation skills.
Our rates are competitive and our quality is unmatched. If you ever have a question about a final translations price, just ask. We are always happy to provide a comprehensive breakdown.
All of your translations receive the same care and consideration when we calculate a price. We treat our Chinese customers the same as we treat our global customers.
When you hire our company to provide a translation into Chinese or any other language, several different things can impact the final price.

Here are a few of the things we consider when pricing our translations:

Wordcount;
Type of translation;
Languages involved;
Due date;
Formatting issues;
Formatting requests;
The need for specialized or technical knowledge.

Usually, wordcount is the primary factor in determining a translation cost.

Next to the language pair, wordcount contributes most to the final price. Chinese to English translations will typically cost more than English to Chinese translations.
A target document is the final translation. A source document is the document you provide us to translate – for example: Chinese (source) to English (target).
We typically quote our prices in dollars/yuan/etc
We quote our prices from the source document – that means you are in control of how much money you spend.

Type of translation

We offer standard and high quality translations to suit your budget needs.
Feel free to take a look at our different types of translation offerings.

Due date

We can accommodate all delivery times (within reason).
The sooner you need your translation returned to you, the more it’s likely to cost. Please send us your jobs with advanced notice to save additional money.
Flexibility is one of our company’s strongest assets. We can meet short target deadlines and we can accommodatemajor projects on very short notice.

Formatting issues

If the source document’s format is difficult to work with, the translation might cost more to produce. We recommend sending documents in MS Word. For a complete list of acceptable source formats, please contact our service agents.

Formatting requests

If you would like our translators to re-format your documents while we translate them, we can accommodatethis as well. An example here would be translating from a source Chinese Acrobat PDF file to a target English MS Word file.
Some formatting changes may result in extra costs. Contact our service agents to inquire about possible ways to save on formatting charges.
Formatting changes that require specialized software will likely result in higher rates.

Languages involved

The languages involved with your source and target documents will play a role in the final price. For example, translations from English to Chinese will be cheaper than translations from Chinese to Russian. Here, rates are determined by the number of translators we have and their availability.

The need for specialized knowledge

Some translations require translators to have strong background knowledge and expertise in particular fields.
For example, someone translating a complicated medical text will need a background in medicine. We have Chinese experts ready to take on these complicated and technical projects. Expert translators will typically cost more than standard translators.
When you send us a sample of your document, we are able to let you know which factors will be involved with the rate determination. This allows us to provide you with a very accurate quote for the final price.
Sending in a sample also allows us to find a translator who is perfectly suited to you project. If you have any further questions about translation pricing and rates, contact our service agents.
