A.1.  Title of the project activity:

Top Gas Pressure Recovery Turbine in Qingdao Iron and Steel Group Company

A.2. Description of the project activity:
As one of three iron & steel production bases in Shandong Province, Qingdao Iron and Steel Group Company is located at 5 Zunyi Road, Licang District, Qingdao City. Its production system mainly consists of sintering, iron making, limekiln, steel making, high speed wire rod, No.1 wire mill, No.1 small scale plant, No.2 small scale plant, new high speed wire mill, oxygen shop, power department and etc. At present, there are two blast furnaces of 378 m3, a blast furnace of 420 m3, three blast furnaces of 500 m3 in the iron making production system of the company. According to the characteristics of blast furnace smelting processing, during iron making production, a great deal of waste gases with certain heat and pressure will be produced from blast furnaces, and these waste gases, decompressed through pressure reducing valve set (now noise from the pressure reducing valve set is up to 120dB(A)), are transmitted to processing piping.

Considering from sufficiently utilizing energy, improving economic benefit and protecting environment, the company plans to build common Top Gas Pressure Recovery Turbine (TRT), utilizing differential pressure between top pressure of iron making blast furnaces and system pipe network for guiding gas into turbo-expander to work and driving generators to generate electricity. In this project, at iron making flowsheet pressure reducing valves of No.1 and No.2 blast furnaces, a set of common TRT equipment will be built, and at No.3 and No.4 blast furnaces, a set of common TRT equipment will be built. This project mainly consists of 2 turbines of Model 2MPG4-205/150 and 2MPG4.9-210/150, 2 generators of Model QFW-4.5-2 and QFW-6.8-2.

This project utilizes gas pressure at blast furnace top gas for generating electricity, the electric quantity entering into electricity grid will reduce the electric quantity purchased from North China electricity grid, so realize annual emission reductions of 57117.06 tCO2e.

This project follows the national and local governmental sustainable developing goal, generating by means of Top Gas Pressure Recovery Turbine will not only reduce noise level in factory area, but also reduce waste gases discharge. Gases recovery and comprehensive utilization of blast furnaces and converters have listed into Current Catalogue of Encouraged Key Industries, Products and Technologies to Be Developed by the State (revision 2000), in favour of saving resources and improving ecology environment, complying with sustainable developing strategy, being one of key engineering construction projects encouraged by the state, and this project will contribute to sustainable development of Qingdao Iron and Steel Group Company.
